About
The Vermont Tax-Aide program prepares federal and Vermont state tax returns for low and moderate income individuals at over 66 sites in Vermont. While we give special emphasis to those over 60 years of age, there are no age or residency requirements to those we serve. You do not have to be retired or a member of AARP to use our services. OUR SERVICES ARE FREE.
Tax-Aide is a nation-wide program sponsored by the AARP Foundation, the not-for-profit branch of AARP, in conjunction with the Internal Revenue Service and the Vermont Department of Taxes. Nationally, over 35,000 volunteers prepare almost 3 million federal tax returns for our clients. Tax-Aide has been “in business” for over 40 years and is the fourth largest tax preparation service in the nation, the other three being for-profit businesses with well-known names.
Who are we?
We are your neighbors and fellow townspeople. We are former teachers, business owners, executives, physicians, and lawyers. Some are former accountants and even providers of tax services and advice. We work in Senior Centers, Community Centers, and Libraries across Vermont. Not all of us are retired, but we are all volunteers, giving our time and energy back to the people of Vermont.
